And, when your hair is the frizzy mess created by a combination of nature and your bed, you don’t feel so hot. While every woman has experienced the confidence and mood boost that happens when she steps out of the salon, did you know that psychologists have actually studied the phenomenon of a bad hair day? If you needed an excuse to come in for a blow-dry and style – here it is.” best=”10″ worst=”0″] [/rating]
A study conducted at Yale University showed that bad hair days actually produce negative psychological consequences – beyond just not feeling good about your looks. The study involved asking participants to complete a list of statements about who they are; those with “bad hair” listed more personal character flaws (far beyond those of appearance) than the “good hair” crowd. Dr. Marianne LaFrance, professor of psychology and women’s and gender studies at Yale, found that the way bad hair days affect self-esteem results in self-doubt, intensified social insecurities, and increased self-criticism. She also found that both women and men suffer, literally, from bad hair. She reported “Even more fascinating is our finding that individuals perceive their capabilities to be significantly lower than others when experiencing bad hair.”
At J. Joseph Salon, we understand the power of great hair – when you walk out the door of the salon, we want you feeling powerful, confident, and hot. Great hair gives you that extra push to be the very best version of yourself, the version who is smart, charismatic, charming, in-charge, and just a little flirty. You deserve to have great hair every day, and we’re here to help.
